Playing Gigs (and the Show at Titanic Brewery)

Hey! I’ve been playing bass for a while now — since I was 15. I’ve been playing gigs for almost as long. I haven’t kept count, but there have been a lot of them.

Most of those gigs have been OK. Some have been pretty incredible. And some have been downright shitty and made me question why the hell I ever wanted to be a performing musician in the first place.

But every once in a while, one of those gigs comes along where everything just comes together.

You know the kind of gig I’m talking about: The vibe is just right. The room energy makes you dizzy. The band is firing on all cylinders and putting out nothing but love and the audience is reflecting it right back.

And all at once, you realize, “This is it. This is what I live for.”

It doesn’t matter what else is going on in your world. Your chaotic life, your “day” job, your car problems – ALL of those things are relegated to the “who gives a shit” part of your brain.

At that moment, you’re serving your purpose, and nothing else matters. Your spirit soars and everything is right in the world.

That is the power of the gig.

I love playing gigs. Nothing else makes me feel more alive, more vital, more relevant.

I also love playing the bass — the way it sounds, the way it feels, the way it looks. I love the way it makes the stage rumble. I love the way I can feel it in my heart.

The bass guitar is such an amazing voice – unassuming and humble, yet so powerful in its foundation.

Playing bass live is the shit, and that’s that.

I want to thank anyone that has ever checked out any of my bands, most importantly my current band: BUSHWOOD.

It’s generally implied, but it needs to be said that without you all out there in the crowd, we can’t have that feeling I describe so eloquently above. It is a circle of energy – you feed off of us – we feed off of you.

The show in Miami at Titanic Brewery (10/24/09) was EPIC. If you were there, you are in the know, if not, get your ass to the next BUSHWOOD show in your area! VIDEOS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNvJ0YwwTaY&feature=PlayList&p=2AFFF106E7DA9BC0&index=0&playnext=1

Introducing: BUSHWO(RL)D

Good morning, and in case we don’t see you later (or you read this later), good afternoon, good evening and good night!! Hope you had a great 09/09/09 yesterday on Wednesday (9 letters) in this wonderful month of September (9 letters), which happened to be the 252nd day of the year (yup, adds up to 9!) It’s almost like that movie “23” but real life and they decided on a different number instead!

But all Jim Carrey movie references aside, we have a couple of items (why not make it 9?) to address in this issue of BUSHWO(RL)D <-- (you see what we did there, the parenthesis are like an “O” but we snuck in the "RL" ummhmm ya – very clever, we know!) So, here we go!

1) The Show at Murphy's!
Our show last Saturday (September 5th) at Murphy’s Downtown in Boca was pretty incredible!!! We had an excellent turnout from our loyal group of fans and friends, and we just want to give an extra thanks for coming out on a holiday weekend! You guys really are the shit! We rocked it hard for you, brought out some brand spankin’ new songs, and old favorites as well :) Also, thank you Murphy’s for hooking up the gig and to Skafyah for sharing the stage with us. More show announcements to come soon!

2) New Website & Revamped Blog!
We just created our own social network with the address
http://BushwoodBand.ning.com which has some very cool features. We recommend checking it out and taking a look around!
Also, we have completely updated and redesigned the Bushwood Blog (located at
http://BushwoodBand.blogspot.com) Check that out too!

3) Bushwood Merchandise thru Zazzle!
We are EXTREMELY excited to have found this website and be able to offer you an exclusive chance to sport BUSHWOOD merchandise! Essentially, we set up some basic designs for Bushwood shirts, but what’s sick about it is that you can then go in and completely personalize or customize your shirt. No longer are the days when you either liked the design or didn’t; now YOU have the option of shirt color & style, as well as design placement. Check this out:
http://www.zazzle.com/bushwood

4) Fan Reviews!
You must know by now that we are ALL about our fans, which means you! To everyone that has come out to a show since Bushwood relocated to the South Florida, we want to hear from you! You guys have been great with posting pictures but now we want to take it a step further – let us know what you think about a show once it all goes down! You have many options of where to post your thoughts, but we would love it if you would either mention @BushwoodBand on Twitter, post it on our Facebook page, comment on our blog with it, or just e-mail it to
BushwoodBandFL@gmail.com! Let’s hear it!!

5) Recording!
We are ready to record our songs and share them (in pristine quality) with the world! If you happen to know anybody that can help us out, has a studio (or knows someone that does), or can recommend one, PLEASE reach out to one of us and share the wealth! We are looking to and have enough incredible songs to record a full length album, but would be more than happy to release an EP at this juncture! Reach out to us if you got anything!

6) Are you a true Bushwood fan?
First of all, we want to thank all of you for reaching out and showing us some love, whether by “becoming a fan” on Facebook, “following us” on Twitter, or appreciating us & our music on various other sites like: YouTube, ReverbNation, MySpace, BandCamp, iLike, etc. If you love us and love the party atmosphere that we provide, show that love through the internets – don’t be shy!

8) Love
9) & Reggae!!!

Profile Picture CONTEST! We need YOU!!!

Hey there! Hope you are having a great Thursday! We are rapidly closing in on the weekend, and only 3 days away from hitting the stage at Murphy’s Downtown in Boca!!

So, here’s the deal: We need a new profile picture for our sites all over the interwebs, and we need YOUR help! The winning photo will be displayed on our Website, Blog, Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, YouTube, ReverbNation, iLike, BandCamp, Last.FM, and various other BUSHWOOD destinations on the internet thing! And we will of course credit the director of photography accordingly :)

Unfortunately, our “band camera” was stolen over last weekend :( therefore leaving us with no way to document the historic show that will take place on Saturday night… We know you have a camera and were maybe thinking about bringing it – PLEASE DO!! AND PLEASE TAKE AS MANY PICTURES AS POSSIBLE!!!

Whoever takes the “BEST” picture that includes all 3 band members will be rewarded handsomely! (Can you say “FREE BUSHWOOD SHIRT?!?”)

All you have to do is bring that camera we were talking about and snap away furiously! Then, when you get home, you can either upload the pictures to your Facebook & tag the band members*, upload pictures directly to the fan photos on the BUSHWOOD fan page, or send them directly to the band e-mail: BushwoodBandFL@gmail.com.

That’s it for now! We hope you guys are excited about Saturday night!! We can’t wait!!! :) See you then!

Peace, Love, & Reggae!

The End of Summer…

Hey there! Here we are just a couple of days away from our next live performance, which essentially will close the chapter of Summer 2009, and we find ourselves both reflecting over the last couple months, as well as looking forward with excitement to the coming ones…

Summer is a tricky time – it is always long anticipated and usually gone before anyone is ready to say goodbye. It’s just too short! But somehow its brevity produces good times that are above & beyond what the other seasons have to offer. The sun, along with the majority of people, is out in full force – some are on a break from school, some travelling the globe, some continuing on the daily grind. Overall, it is just a more lax time of the year where everyone can get loose together and forget about their ‘normal’ responsibilities for a night or weekend.

We have had the pleasure of playing 3 shows (about 1 per month) over this sweet summer, and we feel that we have improved drastically with each show. Now, by “improved” we don’t JUST mean our performances on stage, but our overall sense as a band, our songwriting, our musicianship, and most importantly, our relationship with you, our fan. We cannot stress enough how grateful we are and we thank you for reciprocating that love!

We can’t wait to hit the stage this Saturday, September 5th at Murphy’s Downtown, and before we go, we just want to give a shout out to SKAFYAH who will be playing after us – check them out and show them how South Florida music fans hold it down! We go on at 10 pm and you do not want to miss this show!!! See you there!

We leave you with this thought:
“The tans will fade, but the memories will last forever.” :)

Nothing Gold Can Stay...

Peace, Love, & Reggae!

The Bushwood Triumvirate!

Hey world!!! BUSHWOOD here! We just want to take a moment out of this hectic crazy lifestyle to genuinely thank each and every one of our fans - whether you came out to one show or come out to them all - whether you became a "fan" on facebook, myspace, or reverbnation or if you "followed" us on twitter - or you just heard about us, and helped spread the (BUSH)word - from the bottom of our hearts - we want to say: thank you!! thank you!! thank you!!

These days, its an ever-evolving realm being in a local band. There are a lot of ways to get your band name out there, and a lot of ways to publisize shows - but without our core fanbase and that essential "word-of-mouth" that sprouts from them, we would be nothing. We are three dudes who are ecstatic about our brand of reggae/rock music, and we want to share that with the world, one person & one set of ears at a time. We truly appreciate anyone who gives us a chance, and if you like what you hear, come back for more!!!

BUSHWOOD has been through a sort of transitional period these last couple months, with the move down south from Orlando to Ft. Lauderdale, and with bassist Adam Moskowitz joining to complete the trifecta! There is something amazing and beautiful about bands that strip down to the bare essentials of the trio formation. Take a moment and look at this list of bands/artists below and realize that they all have one thing in common; they existed exclusively with 3 musicians, 3 instruments, drums, guitar, and bass.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream, The Police, Sublime, Rush, Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble, ZZ Top, Nirvana, and even punk trios like Green Day, Alkaline Trio & Blink 182. Also noteworthy are "power trios" which included only 3 musicians as well as a vocalist, like Led Zeppelin, The Who, & Queen.

"Trios usually emphasize instrumental performance and overall impact." - Rolling Stone

Until next time, stay safe out there, and be kind to each other!!

Peace, Love, & Reggae :)

THE BUSHWOOD BLOG !

Heyyyyy!!!

We are Bushwood, and we think there is something missing in your lives: more BUSHWOOD!!! We have recently relocated from Orlando, FL to Ft. Lauderdale, FL and the transition could not have been any smoother. We want to welcome & introduce Adam Moskowitz on the bass! We have had 3 shows with the new set up so far, and they have all been increasingly incredible!! Speaking of incredible, we want to thank the fans so much for coming out to support your boys!! We do this all for you, and we need you to know that. Without you all, we are just 3 dudes on stage acting like fools playing our special brand of reggae/rock. So, thank you again, this is all for you! Stay tuned to all of our sites (links below!) as we are planning some big things for the future and are looking to book several shows before we say goodbye to 2009.
